We imagine that there will be a good bit of meaty The Flash season 5 news from San Diego Comic-Con today, but let’s kick things off here!
Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, the cast dished out a number of big details leading up to the panel later today. For starters, Danielle Panabaker will be directing on the show for the first time later this season! She’s not the first cast member to do this (Tom Cavanagh has done it multiple times before), but we’re always thrilled to see cast members step into the chair and show off a different sort of expertise. Danielle is directing the 18th episode of the season, but even showrunner Todd Helbing doesn’t know at the moment what the episode is going to be about. It’s so far down the road!
Meanwhile, one of the other interesting reveals in here is the episode 8 is going to be the 100th one of the series; meanwhile, episode 9 will actually be the Batwoman-themed crossover! We do wonder if this is a course-correction after the 100th episode of Arrow ended up having to be a part of a crossover event. With that, it had to help carry the story of other shows in addition to presenting its own. That didn’t quite work, so we’re glad that it looks like the show is going to have more of an individual chance to shine here. The Flash deserves that — though there is a challenge here still in that episode 9 is going to also be the midseason finale. How do you create a cliffhanger that is specific to The Flash in the midst of a story that has to support some other shows, plus a new character, at the same time?
New episodes of The Flash will premiere on The CW later this fall. Stay tuned!
