Supergirl season 4 spoilers: Nicole Maines to play Nia Nal a.k.a. Dreamer

Supergirl season 3 episode 13

There is some big Supergirl season 4 news coming out of the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel today — Nicole Maines is set to play Dreamer!

So, who is this character? She is the first transgender superhero within the DC – CW universe and hopefully, she brings a great deal of inspiration along with her. Maines previously guest-starred as Anna in an episode of Royal Pains; Dreamer’s alter ego is Nia Nal, a reporter who is intent on helping others in their time of need. Her trajectory could be somewhat similar to Kara’s in terms of her journey to becoming a hero. No matter what, we are happy that there is someone else coming on board to reinforce CatCo as a storyline — after all, it feels like we’ve seen that organization be somewhat buried as of late in the midst of all of the other stuff going on. That’s especially true for season 3.

Maines’ casting was not the only one that was announced at the panel. Take a look below for some more.

April Parker Jones – Jones is set to be a major part of the new season as Colonel Haley, a dedicated military woman who is intent on following orders — whatever they may be. It’s a little early to tell just where she is going to fit into the story at the moment.

David Ajala – The Falling Water actor will recur as Manchester Black, a ruthless guy who has served many purposes within the comics. In some iterations, he is an antihero; meanwhile, in others he is a full-on villain. Either way, it’s hard to imagine that this is the sort of guy Kara is going to love for some of his methods and propensity for risk-taking.

Supergirl season 4 will air on Sundays this October at The CW. While filming has been underway for a couple of weeks now, the irony is that Melissa Benoist has yet to start due to some of her work on Broadway.
