Game of Thrones season 8 and the great Comic-Con omission
While we’ve written some articles in the past about some other shows being omitted from the convention, things feel different with the HBO show. For starters, they can’t use filming as an excuse! Production’s already wrapped up in Northern Ireland and with that, you would hope that it would be easier to round up some cast members. Meanwhile, it’s hard to think that cost is a factor since HBO has all the money in the world.
The thing that makes us the saddest about the omission, ore so than anything else, is simply that this could be the last Comic-Con before Game of Thrones wraps up its run on HBO. While there are other conventions the cast could attend including New York Comic-Con in the fall, it’s been such a staple in San Diego that it’s distressing to not see it here.
Is it possible that Game of Thrones will still be waiting to premiere in the summer of next year, or at least will be in the middle of its run? It very well could be, and that leads us into the double-edged sword situation we are about to present. While it would be wonderful to have a Game of Thrones farewell panel next year, that also does mean that we’re stuck waiting longer for the final season to premiere. At least we know that one of the planned prequels is filming a pilot later this year, so it’s certainly possible that this show could be at Comic-Con in 2020. If there is a farewell panel for Game of Thrones proper next year, 2018 could be the only year in a good stretch where we don’t have some representation from the Westeros world.
