Cable ratings: Yellowstone, Suits season 8, and Queen Sugar

Yellowstone

For this edition of Cable Ratings, we are kicking things off first and foremost with Yellowstone … a series that was sure to decline in the ratings over time. That’s not an indictment on that show so much as it just is the reality of being a program on in 2018. Over time, you are going to lose some viewers; it’s just the way of it.

The new episode earlier this week drew a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic coupled with close to 1.9 million viewers. This does mark the first time that we have seen Yellowstone dip under the 2 million mark in the live ratings, but as we’ve said, there’s not too much of a reason to worry. So far, this has proven itself very much to be one of the most-popular shows on cable this year and a complete revelation for the Paramount Network, which to date hasn’t really had all of that much in the way of a major hit to speak of. This is really helping to kick them into high gear in a way that we haven’t quite seen with some other shows.

We’re still waiting for news on the future of Yellowstone but, at least for now, we remain optimistic.

As for some other ratings discussions…

Suits – For its first episode without original cast members Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle on Friday night, the series generated in total a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and then also close to 1.3 million viewers. As a whole, that does feel like a rather great start to the show since it’s actually better than how the show performed for much of the spring. Granted, we do have a tendency to see Suits perform much better in the summer than the winter.

Queen Sugar – Finally, some bad news. After rising for most of the past several weeks, we did see a little bit of slippage in the ratings here. The latest Queen Sugar episode on Wednesday drew a 0.2 rating in the demo and then slightly more than a million viewers.
