Magnum PI spoilers: The Mentalist alum Tim Kang new series regular
In a new post on Twitter, the series’ official account confirmed that the actor, whose recent credits also include Madam Secretary, Cloak & Dagger, and The Vampire Diaries, will be a series regular as Detective Gordon Katsumoto. Kang’s a great actor who brings a lot of determination to his roles (we loved his Madam Secretary turn in particular); with that in mind, we’re very much glad to see him on board the show moving forward. It’s also a reunion for him with CBS, which aired The Mentalist for many years prior to its cancellation.
If Magnum PI is anything like some of the other shows in the Peter Lenkov extended universe in Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver, we do think that there is going to be a great deal to like for Kang! There should be a nice mixture of non-stop action and also some fun character drama and moments of humor here and there. We know that he can pull all of that off.
It’s pretty clear that CBS does have some high hopes for Magnum PI, given the fact that they are situating it on the schedule Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time (prime network real estate) this fall. Will it be a hit? That’s up for the viewers to decide, but we think that they are doing just about everything that they can right now in order to properly position this as one of the biggest shows of the season. Let’s just hope that some of the guest casting coming up makes us equally as excited.
