Poldark season 4: Should Drake, Morwenna get together this season?
When thinking about many recent TV romances, I can’t think of many, at least with characters who are both alive, that is more tragic than this one. Think about it for a moment. Drake and Morwenna started off their relationship in a happy, rather-innocent place. Yet, since that time things have effectively gone careening off of the side of a hill for a number of different reasons … most of them having to do first with George, and then mostly with Ossie Whitworth.
Morwenna was forced to marry Whitworth as a means of ensuring that nothing terrible was going to happen to Drake. Then, on the other side of that she found herself in a position where she was forced to have sex with Osbourne and carry his child. She was able to keep herself physically from being with him for a while, but was still subjugated to his abuse every step of the way. He’s dead now, but she remains with child again and she is firmly under the grasp of Lady Whitworth.
Basically, it seems as though there is no clear escape from her situation … but, is there still a way out?
If there is one reason to be hopeful here for Drake and Morwenna’s future, it is that she at least is no longer married. It’s also that Drake is incredibly stubborn. This is a man who refused to move on for years despite her marrying someone else; then, beyond that, he’s refused to listen to her requests to go away for the longest time. He was willing to do everything that he could in an effort to get her to be with him once more. I have a hard time thinking that he is going to give up now. This is a kind, caring person who will have no problem being a father to children that are not his own, and someone who will love Morwenna unconditionally. Much of her fear probably stems from what Withworth’s family will do if she was to leave, but whenever there is a will, there’s a way! It’s possible that she and Drake would have to leave Cornwall for some time in order to be together, but that definitely does feel like one possibility. Another seems to be vanquishing the Whitworth family or their influence, but that may be more of a challenge with Ossie already dead — there could even be still a murder investigation coming.
