Beyond Chicago PD season 6, what’s the long-term future?
Today, we want to put the focus on Chicago PD, notably because it feels right now like the crime procedural is very much in an interesting spot. Typically, six seasons is where many shows have to start thinking about decisions to secure their long-term future. In some occasions, that means making moves in order to better stabilize your cast. However, in other cases it means just assessing how long story-wise you think that your show can go on for. Both of these could be issues at the heart of Chicago PD moving forward, and they are probably things being looked at behind-the-scenes.
At the moment, though, what we know is this: We’re fairly confident about the fact that there will be a Chicago PD season 7. As a matter of fact, we wouldn’t be shocked if there is a season 8 after that. There’s no real reason to worry about the future of this particular edition of the One Chicago family. As a matter of fact, it may be the most stable out of any of the shows that are there at the moment. This is the show within the franchise with the richest syndication deal and beyond that, this is also the show has the most mainstream procedural audience. Cop shows are universally popular and while we think that Chicago Med has some potential in this space, it hasn’t really hit the point yet where it is out in the syndication market and may not be until after season 5.
So long as the ratings stay up to par, we can see Chicago PD sticking around for a while. there could be issues if there are more cast departures, but we have seen it find a way to withstand some already. because of that, there are some reasons to think that it may be able to handle some more as we move further into the future.
