Should NCIS: New Orleans season 5 have a new Big Bad?

NCIS: New Orleans season 4 premiere

NCIS: New Orleans season 5 may not be premiering on CBS until this fall, but we don’t think it’s too early to talk about villains! Bad guys are obvious a chief component to every edition of the franchise, but we’ve felt over the years like the New Orleans series has handled them a bit differently than other iterations in the franchise.

When you look back at some of the past seasons of NCIS: New Orleans, one of the major through-lines that you’ll see are adversaries that exist, whether it be physically or narratively, through most of the season. In season 3, you saw that in the form of Mayor Hamilton showing up on a fairly regular basis. Meanwhile, in season 4 you saw a different sort of powerful story, one where Pride was being watched, investigated, and ultimately targeted. There were people out there who were chomping at the bit to take him down over the way in which he did his business, but it turned out that he was really just a piece in a larger plan. There was an interest in him being the fall guy.

As we start to move forward now, it feels like the right time to start raising a few other questions when it comes to NCIS: New Orleans villains for season 5. Who should they be this time? While we know that there are still some out there from season 4, we’d actually prefer they be done away with in the early going this season. After Pride (hopefully) recovers from the shooting at the end of this past finale, it’s time to turn the page and move along into some other things.

Who we would actually like to see as the main adversary this time is some sort of serial killer, a character who could actually be considered a more localized threat rather than some corrupt government officers. How much tension could you get out of one criminal so dangerous that the entire NCIS: New Orleans team could find them? There’s a lot of interesting narrative juice that could be extracted from this sort of situation, given that you could see Pride wrestling with the fact that despite his resources and experience, he can’t take out a single person. We wouldn’t mind if the end of this season became a little more mystery-based rather than rooted in action. That would mean, in turn, some great material for the cast as they work to resolve this issue that is clearly haunting them.
