The next Outlander awards show that really matters

Outlander

We know that there are many people out there disappointed about the lack of acting nominations for Outlander at the Primetime Emmy Awards, and the same goes for the series itself. (We are certainly thrilled that there is a nod for the fantastic costume team.)

So what’s next when it comes to the series and the awards-show circuit? There is actually a chance for Outlander to take home a trophy or two at some point later this year, and it is courtesy of an organization you may have forgotten about for various reasons in the People’s Choice Awards.

Why even bring up their name? It’s a fair question to ask given that the show completely gave Outlander the shaft when it won back in 2017 and CBS didn’t even bother to mention it on the broadcast. Basically, it was announced as a winner online but didn’t get the TV time or public recognition that many people had wanted. As a matter of fact, this is one of the main reasons why fans were voting for it — beyond of course making sure that actors like Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan got the love that they deserved.

So why believe that the People’s Choice Awards could do something differently this year? For starters, just about everything about the awards show is different. E! is now the broadcast home of the show, and it was moved to the fall in order to avoid being in the thick of awards season elsewhere. Of course, because of that it’s been more than a year and a half since the last ceremony aired. This one is happening on November 11 in Los Angeles and with many new people involved, it’s possible that the show itself is very different. For starters, being on a cable network without a lot of scripted shows may mean that there is less in the way of preferential treatment. (People’s Choice Awards on CBS were at times a way for them to promote their own programming.) It’s also not entirely clear just how many different categories the awards ceremony will have now.

While we await more news about this year’s show (you can visit the official site over here), keep this in the back of your mind. While we clearly saw from last year that even winning a PCA is no guarantee of anything, we like to think that the changes this year will bring about something every Outlander fan wants: A chance to see an actor or producer go up on stage and accept an award during a televised ceremony.
