Outlander notes: Sam Heughan’s casting anniversary; more Rollo fun

Outlander - Saturn Awards -

Who’s ready for a Monday morning edition of Outlander notes? Hopefully, these help to get you prepared to kick off the week — the first full one, alas, since the end of filming.

For this first headline, we are getting a little bit nostalgic (hence the photo from the earlier era of the show) — after all, today marks the five-year anniversary of Sam Heughan being cast to play Jamie Fraser! Check out the most via executive producer Maril Davis below for proof.

What makes this so amazing looking back to the original casting was that at that time, nobody quite knew how Outlander would fare. While the books had plenty of fans, there is never a guarantee that an adaptation is going to properly translate into the small screen. It also wasn’t clear whether or not the series would be able to recruit new fans beyond the books.

Luckily, it does now feel as though some of those fears have been completely squelched. After all, Heughan has been magnificent in the role of Jamie, and beyond that Outlander has been embraced the entire world over, by both fans of the books and show-only viewers alike. Sam’s been in Emmy contention before for his role and he should be again this year — you can check out the video below for more on his candidacy. This video falls more under “in case you missed it” — there was so much happening at the end of this past week that we somehow missed out on seeing this video! In it, the actor behind Young Ian Murray shares his excitement and anticipation for what’s coming up next. Beyond that, you’ve got a clear reminder that his relationship with Rollo is already strong despite the two only working together for a season.

Remember, Outlander season 4 is premiering on Starz this November.
