Cable Ratings: Power season 5, Cloak & Dagger, and The Affair season 4

Power season 5

We’re back with another Cable Ratings piece, and once again, we absolutely have a wide array of different discussions here to tackle. Let’s begin, though, with the performance of Power season 5, which just premiered on Starz this past Sunday.

As a whole, the Power premiere ended up generating a rather-impressive figure of 1.55 million viewers, live+same-day, for the first episode. Note that this is just for the episode in its original rating and does not include repeats that followed on Starz. Power is one of the network’s most-successful series, and this rating is probably going to improve significantly throughout the week once you factor in everything from streams, On-Demand viewings, and so much more. In this new era of cable viewing, the majority of people are not watching television when it is on anymore. They choose to do so instead at its own pace.

Remember, Power has already been renewed for a sixth season, so there is no reason to worry about its own long-term future.

As for some other shows…

Cloak & Dagger – The Marvel adaptation on Freeform got off to one of the best starts that the network has ever seen, and the challenge that came along with this was seeing if it could keep that momentum. In terms of the live numbers, it has faltered.

Thursday night’s new episode generated in total around 510,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which are some of the lowest figures we have seen to date. If there is some good news that we can pass along here, it is that this still is stronger than many other Freeform shows and it feels pretty clear, at least to us, that we are going to get a second season.

The Affair – Finally, the Showtime drama drew almost 560,000 live viewers for its most-recent episode, which is by far the best rating of the season. Given how awesome this season is so far, we’re excited to see that it is performing well. Like with Power, though, the live ratings really don’t matter that much here since this is not an ad-supported series. It’s all about the total viewers it brings throughout the week and the subscribers it brings in. We just like to track live ratings since it is one of the few universal measurements that we have.
