For today’s Bull season 3 spotlight, we’re putting the focus on a man in benny Colon who we’re always happy to see have some attention. He’s a smart, capable attorney, and in a lot of ways without him, there would be no TAC given that Bull can’t actually practice law. Having him played by an exceptional actor in Freddie Rodriguez is really just the icing on the cake.
So where are things going to be for Benny entering season 3? We do think that this guy is in a fairly interesting spot entering this season, largely because he’s one of the more stable characters in what is a fairly unstable place. Marissa almost resigned in the season 2 finale, Cable is just starting to get some of her mojo back, and Bull is recovering from a heart attack. We think having Benny the friend shine through at the start of the season is going to be important. He’s a valuable source of support, even though he’s also firm when he needs to be. We want to see the series showcase him helping get Bull back on his feet. He won’t coddle him, but he will be there when he needs to be. He’ll also call him out if he starts slipping back into some of his old ways.
Beyond just this, we’re hoping that season 3 really gives us a chance to see more of Benny outside the office. Despite him being one of the most well-known people in the cast, he didn’t have enough of a consistent storyline in season 2 for our liking. Whether we get a chance to see more of his family (beyond just Isabella) or a possible love interest, it feels like there’s so much good stuff that can be explored with this character — and we’d like to see a lot of it play out beyond just within the walls of the TAC offices. It’d also be nice to see him bring in more clients rather than having Bull blindsiding him with clients like we saw at the end of this past season.
Finally, here’s one other question to wonder: What challenges benny at this point? What else does he want out of his life beyond just being a really good lawyer? We feel like we’re far enough into this season at this point that we can really start to examine more of who some of these people really are beyond just the job description. Season 2 kicked things off, whereas season 3 should be a nice extension of all of this.
