After Lucifer season 4, could future seasons have more episodes?
For the time being, it’s probably too early to say anything for sure. We like to think of the Lucifer season 4 order almost as a proving ground for the series on the streaming service — given that the show has never been on there before, Netflix is taking a gamble that it will perform well. They don’t know what its viewership numbers will be among its consumer base. In giving it ten episodes, those are ten opportunities to show precisely what it is made of. After Netflix sees this data (which, unfortunately, is not something that they make available to consumers), they can figure out more of what they want to do from here.
Personally, we’d love to see a season 5 of the series upped to 13 episodes — we’re not getting overly optimistic to the point where Lucifer does 22-episode orders again, but thirteen is a nice number that gives the writers a chance to dive more into the mythology — while also delivering some fun standalone stories in the process. If season 4 does remarkably well, we do think that a season 5 that lasts a little longer is possible. Almost anything is right now, but realistically, this is something that we can foresee.
In the end, though, we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We do still think that if Netflix didn’t have any intention of ordering more than one season of Lucifer, they probably wouldn’t have picked it up. This is a series that could go on for some time but for now, the focus should just be making sure that everyone checks out season 4 when it is available — tell your friends and family to do it too! The more eyeballs who check out the series, the more likely we are to get a season 5 — and a longer one, to go along with it.
