Should Grey’s Anatomy season 15 do more filming in Seattle?

Grey's Anatomy season 14

Should Grey’s Anatomy season 15 return to Seattle in order to do a little bit more filming? We do think that there is a case to be made for it.

For those who are not altogether aware, let’s begin this story with a discussion on what has happened with the series in the past. Last year, the series chose to kick off production by heading north to the Emerald City to film a number of exterior locations. While some of them were specifically for the 300th episode, others were scattered throughout. This was a way in which to help make the show feel a little bit more authentic, which is hard to do when you are filming in Los Angeles. The producers do their absolute best nonetheless, and that’s something that we’ve especially seen over on Station 19 these days since that crew has to head out into the field a little more often due to all of the fires.

So what is the value in heading back up to Seattle? It mostly just has to do with creating a similar sort of authentic flavor, and beyond that, we do think that there is a certain degree of pride that comes along with it. By being in Seattle, you can capture the sights and the vibe of a city that really is not represented all that much on television at the moment. The city is not much of a filming hub, with most West Coast productions existing in either Los Angeles or Vancouver instead.

Personally, what we think would be super-interesting is an entire Grey’s Anatomy filmed on location in Seattle where a character or two stumbles into a medical emergency that they attend to for the entirety of the episode. Consider this one of those “very special” episodes that has a bottle-episode feel, but gives you a chance at a great performance, as well. We think there’s a good chance production does return to Seattle at some point, even if it’s not for season 15. Our idea of a bottle episode is probably a little more unlikely. Those are stories that are hard to pull off, especially since they are so demanding.
