Absentia season 2: Three reasons for Amazon to pick it up

Absentia season 2

While it’s official that Absentia season 2 is going to air north of the border in Canada, there are still questions about what’s going on with Amazon in America. While we’d like to assume that Prime Video is bringing the series back for more — they are still promoting it on social media — nothing is 100% official as of yet there.

With that, we thought today we’d present a few handy reasons as to why Amazon should bring the Sony series back for another go at some point in 2019.

1. Continuing to build an established audience – If you are Amazon, it really just makes sense to have a wide array of different shows — especially under the leadership of new programming head Jennifer Salke. She’s been really pushing over the past few months in order to have shows that appeal to wide audiences and Absentia can be that. Crime thrillers are exceptionally popular and with the right campaigns, we think that this is a show that can reach a wide array of different viewers.

2. Building stability with your brand – We also do think that it’s a show of goodwill to give a series a second season as a means of ensuring viewers want to stick with out. This is especially true for a show like Absentia, since our feeling from many people we’ve talked to over the past several months is that the majority of the series’ fans were not Prime subscribers previously. For streaming services, the goal has to be to constantly reach people you haven’t previously and continue to make them happy.

3. It’s a perfect fit – If Absentia were to move over to cable or broadcast, it may have to mess around more with its content and its episode length. That’s not something that it has to worry about on Amazon. This is a series that can tell bold stories there and the streaming provider should welcome this. We remain hopeful that a deal will get done — like we said, Amazon is still promoting it — but we just hope that something happens before the second season starts filming later this year.
