Absentia renewed for season 2, will run for ten more episodes

Absentia season 2

For everyone out there eager for some official news regarding an Absentia season 2, the renewal is now 100% official.

We’d heard previously via Canadian broadcasting company Corus that the Stana Katic series was a part of the Showcase schedule for the 2018-19 season, which was a pretty strong indicator that the show could be coming back for more. Now, we’ve got additional confirmation on the subject now via TVLine. The second season will once more be for ten episodes, but there no 100% confirmation just yet on things from the Amazon end. Hopefully, there will be soon since the streaming service proved to be a capable home the first go-around. Production is currently slated for a little bit later this year.

Absentia proved itself to be a fantastic player all over the world for studio Sony, who filmed the series in Bulgaria and aired it overseas across many of the AXS family of networks. Amazon picked it up for additional territories in the months that followed. The show was not eligible for a Primetime Emmy Award this year because of rules regarding international productions, but is in contention for the International Emmys a little bit later this year.

In general, we do think there are a wide array of excellent stories still left to tell within the Absentia world, especially with the way in which season 1 ended. It’s very clear that Emily Byrne still needs some answers, and beyond that there could be a lot of interesting content to be mined out of seeing her back with the FBI and interacting with some of these characters in a little bit more of an official capacity. Hopefully, many of the regulars from season 1 will be back alongside Katic.

Once there is a little bit more information out there in regards to Absentia season 2, we’ll be sure to let you know.
