The Good Doctor season 2 table read happens with Freddie Highmore, cast

Good Doctor episode 2 ratings

The Good Doctor season 2 production is gearing up! Freddie Highmore and much of the rest of the cast are officially together, and with that, filming could be close to kicking off.

On Monday, the show’s official Twitter account posted the photo below featuring much of the cast at the table read for the premiere episode — which, by the way, Freddie Highmore wrote himself! We understand that there may be some sounding the alarm out there about Richard Schiff (Dr. Glassman) not being present in this photo, but for the time being we’re not thinking of this as some sort of enormous warning sign. There hasn’t been any clear indication that Schiff is leaving the show, and it’s possible that he either was not in the room, was out of frame in the photo, doesn’t appear in the premiere or they don’t want to give too much away. The character may still be in recovery following his cancer procedure and a part of the challenge in the premiere may just be with the other doctors at the St. Bonaventure Hospital figuring out a way in which to continue forward without him around.

The Good Doctor is kicking off its production a little bit earlier than some of the other shows on the network TV schedule, and while that means that some of these actors are losing a bit of their summer, at the same time they also finish up work a good bit earlier than many of those other shows. That’s especially true given that this is a series that has, at least so far, only done 18 episodes a season. That was one of the reasons why they were able to convince Highmore to sign on in the first place — he gets to play a fascinating character in Shaun Murphy, but also has some opportunities in order to catch his breath along the way. He also has a chance here to flex some of his other muscles while he’s at it, including as a writer and director. (He’ll be directing an episode a little later in the season.)
