Chicago PD season 6 character spotlight: The future of Kim Burgess
While there was no major Burgess-centric cliffhanger at the end of that season, there was still something enormous that happened in the death of Al Olinsky. That’s going to reverberate through her heart, given that she partnered with him after her promotion to Intelligence and we don’t quite think there’s enough emotional closure that is there. So much of the finale was about the showdown between Voight and Woods and we didn’t really get a chance to stop in and see what was happening with some of the other characters along the way. Hopefully, the season 6 premiere takes a little bit of time to do that rather than jumping forward in time right now. Kim needs that.
In the aftermath of this, though, we do want to know a little bit more in terms of what they dynamics in Intelligence are like for Kim. Who is she working with primarily now, and does her approach to the job change after Olinsky’s death? We doubt that it would, but often you never quite know how something is going to impact you until you’re back out doing the job again.
On a more personal note, it could be valuable to check back in on what’s happening with her sister in the wake of the horrific sexual assault earlier on in the series’ run, one that caused Kim to take a leave in order to care from her. Meanwhile, we would be more than happy to see other people within Kim’s extended family. Of course, we’re always going to be happy to further along the Burgess / Ruzek relationship — while Chicago PD is not a romance by any means, it does feel like it’s time for some movement there. These two characters have went through a great deal together and it does feel like it is time for them to turn the page and get to a place where they can be committed to each other. Hopefully, that comes up at some point during season 6, which premieres on NBC this fall.
