Katherine McNamara open to continuing Shadowhunters after cancellation
McNamara is in Australia this weekend taking part in Oz Comic-Con, and while there she made it clear that it would be amazing to be able to continue to play her character of Clary Fairchild and be a part of this show. (See the tweet below for more.) She has expressed some eagerness to continue ever since the show was first announced as ending, but it is certainly still nice to hear her commitment to it publicly. It also makes some sense for her to want to stick around, since this is the show that helped to make her more of a household name; to go along with that, Clary has inspired countless people all over the world. It’s hard to find work more rewarding.
When it comes to trying to save Shadowhunters, it is certainly clear that the series faces an uphill battle. It ended in part due to a breakdown of negotiations with Netflix internationally, and with that in mind it is hard to imagine that streaming provider being an exclusive home for that moving forward. There are many other options technically out there in terms of streaming services / networks, but it would take a lot of effort and fighting and a near-miracle in order to make something happen. Some things just aren’t made to be. TV is a very tricky, tough business that way. Sometimes the shows that deserve to last four or five seasons only end up finishing with three.
What we do know is this. Shadowhunters season 3 will return with new episodes on Freeform starting in the new year, and the 10 episodes remaining for this season will be followed immediately by two more that will help to wrap up the entire series. Hopefully, there is a way to establish adequate closure with these, but it is going to be very difficult given that we are talking about such a short amount of time.
We will let you know if there is some additional news when it comes to the efforts to save Shadowhunters, but for now keep making your thoughts known on social media and fighting the good fight.
