Reverie episode 3 preview: An imaginary bank robber

Reverie

What’s coming up in Reverie episode 3 is intriguing, but at the same time also a cause for many questions. For the first two episodes, we’ve seen reveries from characters who are try to paint themselves in a positive light. First, we had a man trying to recreate the perfect day with the love of his life; meanwhile, in episode 2 we followed along a woman who fashioned herself into a super-spy, albeit with a very emotional goal behind it.

Now, we’re getting into something a little more unusual in episode 3, as the client at the center of the story has actually transformed himself into a criminal. The synopsis for this episode (entitled “No More Mr. Nice Guy”) gives you a little more insight:

A family man robs banks in his Reverie and Mara (Sarah Shahi) must uncover the deeper reasons why. Mara’s derealizations put her life in danger. Dennis Haysbert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kathryn Morris and Jessica Lu also star.

So why would someone do this? If we were to theorize, it’s possible that this is a man who desperately needs money in real life and won’t do anything untoward in order to get it. However, in his Reverie he can virtually turn into Walter White if that is what he wants to do. He has the freedom to do a wide range of different things, whether they be moral or amoral, depending on his circumstances or desires.

Beyond just the Reverie, though, we have to worry about the prospect of Mara continuing to have visions of her niece and what that could do to her life in the real world. If it continues to distract her, she could suffer some sever consequences. Given her specific job, she needs to be attentive at all times in order to both save other lives and also save herself.
