America’s Got Talent: Meet Michael Ketterer, Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer
Just after hearing his package alone, it was pretty darn clear that Michael was going to be a person America was going to root for. He loves to care for others and now, this is a chance to step into the spotlight on his own.
Is it really any surprise that Simon pushed his golden buzzer for a singer? Well, not so much. Yet, it’s clear that Michael really deserves it. He chose to perform the classic “To Love Somebody” — it was powerful, it was nostalgic, and it was something suitable for him given the story that he had. This is a man who’s been waiting a long time to make a dream come true for himself. You don’t get too many stories specifically like his on this show.
Probably the thing we like the most about him is the gruffness that is there when he gets into the lower register — to go along with that, he has an almost-instant vulnerability to him. The one thing that he may need to work on moving forward are his emotions, but let’s be honest here — this is an overwhelming situation for anyone. There’s something so different about being in this position that can’t be replicated. We’ll see precisely how Michael fares when we get into the live shows.
One qualm with the show: We wish that the producers would stop doing the golden buzzers in slow-motion. It takes away the surprise of the moment.
