June 1 is right around the corner, and for fans of Outlander that really means one thing: It’s World Outlander Day! It’s the commemoration of the start of the Outlander book series, at least in terms of public consumption, and it’s a chance for hopefully the TV series inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s books to give something back.
Now that we’ve said this, it does pose another interesting question: What should the folks over at Starz do to commemorate the day? We suggested in the past that this could be the day in which Starz chooses to formally announce renewals for both the fifth and sixth seasons, but as it turns out, they’ve already done that. With the news also out there that Outlander season 4 is not premiering until November, it also seems far too early for the network to release an official trailer. That probably won’t be here until September given the way in which most networks tend to time those out.
So what can still be done to generate a little bit of publicity? We have a few different suggestions…
1. A 30-second teaser – There is absolutely enough footage in the can to make something like this happen, and we would more than welcome it given the fact that it would allow us to comb over some exciting new footage and analyze it to the best of our ability. This would be probably the biggest gesture we could expect, but there’s also been little buzz one is coming. If there does end up being a teaser that drops, it’s going to come as a big surprise.
2. A new collection of photos – We recently got a handful of them with the renewal, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some official shots of new characters like Aunt Jocasta and Ulysses? Maybe also give us a larger sense of the world that is being presented this year?
3. A behind-the-scenes featurette – This would be a good way to venture into production in video form, with interviews from the producers as well as Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. It does feel a bit early to get one of these, but who says that Starz has to follow any particular order? With production in the final stages at this point, there has to be enough footage out there to release something like this.
