This Is Us season 3 spoilers: Jack’s Vietnam history could have surprises
Expect to see some Jack – Vietnam backstory early on in season 3, which does make a certain degree of sense given the fact that this is where we are going to see Kevin head to, based on the events of the season 2 finale. While Milo Ventimiglia didn’t give too much away to Entertainment Weekly recently, he did make it clear that there are some surprises that you’re going to see over the course of the episodes ahead:
“I really don’t want to hint because I want people to be surprised … But what he laid out for me — I didn’t see it coming. I really didn’t see it coming. And I had a pretty good understanding of what it was going to be. As he was unfolding the story — and Isaac [Aptaker, This Is Us co-showunner] was there, and they were explaining everything — I went, ‘Oh. Holy s—. Holy s—. Holy s—!’ I kind of felt like Daryl walking out of the backroom card game with all the money, like, ‘This is going to be so good.’ There is a lot to Jack’s history that shapes who he ultimately becomes.”
This has to be exciting for Ventimiglia, largely because it is so exciting to us! Admittedly when Jack died, there was a big part of us that worried as to just how much we were going to see with him that really piqued our interest. That’s the danger when you build so much hype around a character’s death.
Ultimately, though, kudos to This Is Us for seemingly finding a way to have this all work out that also is going to give us a chance to learn something new.
