Why is Andrew Lincoln leaving The Walking Dead? First discussion

Rick - Negan

Why is Andrew Lincoln leaving The Walking Deadespecially since this story has been largely about his character of Rick?

Ultimately, if certain sources are to be believed, it seems as though this may just be a departure motivated by the desire to spread his wings creatively and try out a few different things as opposed to spending such a great percentage of his time every year in one place, working on one show. Here is what one source had to say to Us Weekly: “Andrew is leaving because he’s had enough of it and wants to focus his energy on movies.”

Given that Norman Reedus is apparently going to be getting roughly $20 million to continue with the franchise, that should help to make people understand just how much money Lincoln is leaving on the table. His exit is also the second one of extreme prominence to come out over the past several weeks related to The Walking Dead. While technically Lauren Cohan is not leaving the show as of yet, her role will be reduced moving into the new season as she takes some time to work on her new series Whiskey Cavalier. If that turns out to be an enormous success, we do anticipate her deciding to move on and work on that exclusively. Remember when Cliff Curtis was supposed to be doing Fear the Walking Dead and the Avatar sequels at around the same time? That didn’t exactly work out so great.
