Designated Survivor season 3: Is there still a chance at a revival?
Yet, there’s also been no word that the Kiefer Sutherland show is officially gone for good, either. What makes this situation in particular so unusual is that there hasn’t been much progress one way or another.
So where does all of the uncertainty lead us? What we know right now is this: Netflix remains the most viable candidate to pick up Designated Survivor, and in turn this is who production company eOne is targeting. Yet, the big issue we foresee is that the show’s US streaming rights are over at Hulu. If there is a logistical problem keeping the move from happening, this could be it. There are a number of different hoops that need to be jumped through in order to get this series back on the air.
As for why Netflix would want the show, there are two very viable reasons we can think of: Getting a strong political drama and also one that performs very well all over the world. With the end of House of Cards near, this show could be the representative one for Netflix within this pace — also, they don’t have to worry about live US ratings quite like Netflix did for such a substantial period of time. That is something that held back the show during its time on ABC and, in the end, seemed to be the reason for its cancellation.
We do hope, one way or another, there are answers coming over the next few weeks. The longer the wait, the harder it is to envision it happening.
