Blue Bloods season 9: Three characters who need their own spotlight story

Blue Bloods season 9

Blue Bloods season 9 is airing on CBS starting this fall and if it is like every other season before it, one thing is probably going to hold true: It will have over the course of it 22 episodes that spotlight many different characters and their work within the police.

One of the things that does tend to hold true with Blue Bloods, more often than not, is its format. Most episodes feature three to four stories that are woven together with a few scenes featuring the entire cast — including the family dinner scene that tends to define many hours of this show. That’s something we want to continue to see as a part of the show, even if certain characters aren’t featured elsewhere. (For those of you bummed out that Vanessa Ray isn’t in all episodes, hopefully this fixes this!)

What we do want to talk about at the moment is simply this: Which characters are worthy of their own spotlight stories beyond some of the core group? Is there a way to mix things up so that they can get main arcs in an episode or two a season, while still linking in the main Reagans at various points? At the moment, we do think there are three people who we’d love to see much more of a personal spotlight on, whether it be on the job or away from it.

Baez – She’s Danny’s partner, and yet most of what we see from her is just her working with Danny in regards to solving cases. We’d love to see more of her actual point of view on things, including her thoughts about Danny’s at-times rebellious streak on the job and some of the things that she’s battling away from it.

Henry – We’ve long been a champion for more of the character, mostly because we’ve learned so much over the course of life the value of wisdom. We think that there could be value in seeing some flashbacks from throughout his life for an episode, or revisiting Frank’s childhood and seeing how he grew up with Henry as a father and a cop. Why not look at things through a different focus?

Eddie – Now that she and Jamie are engaged, it’d ben fun to see and hear reactions from some of the people in her life. We already know that her family life isn’t anywhere near as pristine as Jamie’s, but what about her friends? What does wedding planning look like for her, and what are some of her fears?
