Arrow season 7 is featuring Earth-1 version of Colton Haynes’ Roy

Odds are, you have heard the news already that Colton Haynes is returning to Arrow as a regular for the upcoming season 7. With that, you probably have pondered over a few other questions … including how in the world that is going to happen. After all, the last we saw this character Roy Harper he was leaving Star City with Thea, and it didn’t exactly seem as though there was any real plan in order to ensure that the character could be coming back without Willa Holland in tow. Given that Holland has departed the series and there’s no clear plan for her to come back, it feels like the show is going to have to get a little more creative … and that is certainly something that they are looking at doing for the immediate future.

In speaking on this subject per Entertainment Weekly, one thing that outgoing showrunner Marc Guggenheim made clear is that contrary to some rumors, the writers are not just looking to bring in a different version of Roy Harper. Instead, they have some other secret plan in store that they are looking to unleash:

“I can tell you it’s absolutely our Earth’s Roy … Colton is coming back as our one Roy Harper. We have a cool plan for Roy — now I should really get into the habit of saying the writers have a cool plan for Roy — but I think it’s premature to talk about that. I’ll let [new showrunner] Beth [Schwartz] address that [in the future].”

As for why we’re using an old photo of Roy and Sin within this article, consider this a not-so-subtle hint to the writers that they should find a way to bring this character back into the mix. After all, she was a fantastic addition to the series when she was last around and with Haynes as a regular, it feels like there’s room to explore characters like her again.
