Unfortunately, it looks like there will be no return trip for LA to Vegas on Fox — the comedy has become their latest casualty after just one season.
This particular cancellation is especially a bummer given that out of every new show that came on the air over the course of the past year or so, this is the one that felt like it had the most potential to really grow from season 1 to season 2. You had a unique premise here coupled with a very fun cast; also, this show achieved the rare thing of having Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney on the screen at the same time.
The biggest surprise for LA to Vegas was mostly the fact that it took so long for Fox to make this decision, which did make us think that they wanted to bring the show back on some level. Yet, what we’re seeing at the moment is this network executing a complete and total bloodletting on most of their scripted live-action comedies. Other than Ghosted, whose fate has yet to be fully decided, everything from The Mick to Brooklyn Nine-Nine to The Last Man on Earth was canceled. New Girl was already set to end this season, so we’re not really counting that.
Coming up this fall, Fox is airing Last Man Standing coupled with a new comedy in The Cool Kids, which basically does show you that they are in the midst of a shift. Their focus now is trying to figure out how to appeal to Middle America and get some of the same sector of viewers that you saw with Roseanne. That show was a ratings behemoth for most of the spring.
