Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6: Should Gina Rodriguez return?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5

There were many reasons to be excited about the Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5 finale on Fox, whether it be seeing Jake and Amy’s wedding or also knowing that there would be a season 6 on the other side of it.

Yet, one of the other storylines that got a little bit of burn across the internet was getting a chance to see Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez stop by in the role of Alicia, a new potential love interest for Rosa. This is something that could absolutely be a lot of fun to explore it — but as for whether or not it will actually happen, that’s something we have to see a wait-and-see approach on. For starters, Rodriguez is going to be filming the final season of her show soon and it’s not entirely clear if she will be available. Beyond that, she also has a busy film schedule.

What we do know at the moment is this: There is a clear demand among the show’s producers to have Gina back. Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Dan Goor had the following to say when it comes to the possibility of bringing her back:

Absolutely, that is the hope. Schedules allowing, we would love to have Gina Rodriguez back [in Season 6] and explore Rosa and Alicia’s relationship, and how it [affects] Rosa’s relationship with her parents. We’ve always had fun writing dating stories… and we would all like to write the Rosa/Alicia arc.

Our hope is that if nothing else, there could be two or three episodes in here to explore this. Beyond season 6, maybe you get a chance to explore this more in a season 7 if Brooklyn Nine-Nine ends up lasting long enough. At that point Jane the Virgin will be over, and with Nine-Nine now at NBC there’s a better opportunity to have it stick around. It has a connection with the studio and with that, a greater financial incentive to keep it.
