Saturday Night Live tributes Margot Kidder after death with title card

Saturday Night Live - Margot Kidder

In the closing minutes of the Saturday Night Live finale this weekend, NBC decided to a very classy thing: Pay tribute to the late Margot Kidder. The actress, best known for being Lois Lane in some of the classic Superman motion pictures, passed away earlier this week. She was 69 years old.

There is actually a connection that is present here between Kidder and the sketch show, as she hosted all the back in March 1979. This was in the show’s fourth season, back when it was still finding itself and it was not altogether clear as to if it would make it one decade, let alone a whopping 43 seasons. There are actually some sketches you can watch from it over at the link here. There is even a sketch themed around superheroes that was absolutely perfect for her appearance. Consider this yet another reminder that even back in the early seasons, the show was still trying to be timely and topical. This was a chance to do something that gave Kidder a chance to make fun of herself.

With the tribute tonight, SNL showed us that they never forget about some of their former hosts, even if they took part decades before. That is a big part of what’s wonderful about having a show that goes on for so long and invites such a wide array of people on as host.

Of course, our thoughts and condolences continue to go out to Kidder’s family during what has to be a very emotional, trying time for them still. We’re sure that even this mention was appreciated. We would also hope that Supergirl, whether it be with a title card or some other mention in the future, also finds a way to honor her coming up reasonably soon.
