Outlander season 4 and the (hopeful) new teaser / trailer timeline
Let’s kick things off here by discussing the season 4 teaser, which is going to be the first thing that Starz eventually decides to release. So, when should they do it? When it comes to the season 3 teaser, they released it a good four and a half months prior to the start of new episodes. If that sort of pattern holds, maybe we can see something more along the lines of late June or early July. With the show not coming back until November, it’s clear that there is no sense of urgency. Yet, at the same time you do need to make some announcements from the mere standpoint of trying to make sure that your interest is maintained. We’re in the midst of a long period of time to wait between seasons, and we have to think that the folks over at the network are aware of that.
Ask for the proper season 4 trailer itself, our personal desire would be a see it at some point come early September. You don’t want to wait so long so that the trailer gets somewhat lost in the new cycle of everything that is happening a little later in the month, including the start of The formal fall TV season and NFL football becoming a little more headline-worthy. By releasing the trailer in early September, you get the enthusiasm built up for a good couple of months or so prior to the start of Outlander. That’s about the perfect time to do so.
One other thing for Starz to consider is simply this: Network Synergy. Take for example Power, a that is immensely popular on the network and has its largest total audience. Does it make sense to launch a teaser or trailer around one of those new episodes this summer? We would argue that there is some logic there, but it is not absolutely necessary just because of the fact that these two shows have very different audiences. What makes the most sense for Starz is simply to find the right venue or time to release the trailer that it’s going to accure the most press possible. With a show this epic and with fans so passionate, the best thing you can just do is try to cater to them. Hopefully, you can rely on them to spread positive word of mouth on the series and what’s coming up.
One way or another, the delay to the start of season 4 means mostly that you’re going to be waiting for a little while longer to get some more substantial material on what lies ahead.
