NCIS: New Orleans season 5: Christopher Silber to serve as showrunner
According to a report from Deadline, Silber (who was already an executive producer on the series) will take on the duties following the departure of current showrunner Brad Kern. This news comes months after a report noted that Kern had been the subject of a pair of internal investigations over workplace behavior. Following that, he had completed six months of workplace sensitivity training and counseling and there were no further complaints.
In promoting Silber, NCIS: New Orleans is setting itself up well with someone who knows this series and the CBS procedural world exceptionally well. He has written and produced on such shows as Cold Case, Elementary, and NCIS proper before taking on the gig for the New Orleans show. He is inheriting a show now that is somewhat in a state of flux. Shalita Grant (Percy) departed a few episodes before the end of season 4 and with that, the team is still missing a cast member — we anticipate an official hire over the summer. Bringing Riann Steele (who plays Sydney) for a larger role seems like one possibility, as is finding someone totally different.
Meanwhile, there are also some other cliffhangers that Silber is going to need to address, including trying to figure out how to resolve the cliffhanger with Pride being shot (read more about that here) and then also the status of Christopher LaSalle. In the closing minutes of the finale he was called back to Alabama to resolve a major tax-related issue with the family business. (Not the happiest reason to go home, right?)
NCIS: New Orleans will premiere this fall on CBS; the change in showrunner should not cause any delays behind the scenes. Silber already knows the series exceptionally well so we’re excited to see what he brings.
