Why isn’t an Alex Inc. season 2 happening at ABC?

Alex Inc. season 2

Going into tonight’s finale, why isn’t an Alex Inc. season 2 taking place over at ABC? As it turns out, there are a number of different reasons for it, but most of them boil doing to the show’s overall performance.

If you look at the average 18-49 rating for the Zach Braff series, it doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence — Alex Inc. ended up drawing overall a 0.9 rating overall. That may not look necessarily terrible on paper, but it is the trajectory of said rating that makes it a little more disconcerting. The series first kicked off with a 1.1 rating but beyond that, started to slip a little bit more on its way down to a 0.6 rating just a couple of weeks ago. That’s not going to get it done for a first-year show on ABC, a network that has a certain degree of expectation for the bulk of its comedy series.

There are sometimes other measurements, including DVR ratings and streaming numbers, that can help to save a show. Unfortunately, though, Alex Inc. couldn’t get enough momentum going in any of these ratings to ensure that it got a chance to stick around on the air. It’s a bummer since we know that this is a series that could’ve really evolved in some interesting directions — it also had a different worldview than a lot of the other family comedies on ABC. We were always biased towards it from the start due to our longstanding appreciation for Braff, who we loved for both Scrubs and then also his movie Garden State, which showed off his talents in an array of different ways.

Alas, we hope you enjoyed the finale of Alex Inc. tonight, given that you are not going to have a chance to dive into this world again in the future. Not all shows in this climate get a chance to see the light of day again.
