NCIS season 15 episode 23 sneak peek: Gibbs is in for a surprise

Mark Harmon - NCIS season 15 episode 23

NCIS season 15 episode 23 is airing on CBS come Tuesday night and it’s going to be clear almost from the get-go just how emotional this one is — and then following that, precisely how shocking.

At the center of this episode, entitled “Fallout,” is a man in Captain Phillip Brooks who everyone believes to be dead. As a matter of fact, the sneak peek below begins with Gibbs appearing at what he believes to be his memorial service. Brooks had vanished after being lost at sea, and after a certain period of time he was presumed gone for good. Yet, in true NCIS fashion nothing is anywhere near as simple as it first appears. Gibbs starts looking around the house and eventually makes a shocking discovery: A fallout shelter. Not only that, he then realizes that Brooks is alive and hiding in it!

Per some of the promotional material that is out there for this episode, brooks is hiding after his ship was attacked at sea. He swam ashore, and this is precisely how he ended up in this current position.

Where does this story go from here? We would assume that Gibbs will recruit the remainder of his team to figure out what happened and arrest some of the parties responsible — this has to be what Brooks is waiting for, right? He obviously doesn’t want to be out in the real world out of fear of being attacked, and presumably we don’t think that he is planning to spend the remainder of his life living within what is effectively a bunker. Something has to give and this could be the time in which it happens.

This episode of NCIS is the first one without Pauley Perrette, and clearly the move on the part of the writers is to have a really interesting case to help compensate for the omission. It’s still to early to tell as to if they are really going to be able to pull that off.
