The Blacklist renewed for season 6 by NBC
While it did take a while for the latest season of the show to get the green light, it is hardly a surprise that it managed to happen. There are a few different reasons for it, starting first and foremost with the fact that this is a production from outside of NBCUniversal’s own flagship studio. When that happens, sometimes it takes a little bit more time in order to get these sort of negotiations done. That is a little more challenging here just because the ratings for season 5, while decent, were not what they once were for the show.
Still, there are multiple saving graces for this series, starting first and foremost with the fact that this is a solid franchise with a lot of episodes and story in the tank. It performs well in terms of its DVR ratings and it is also the recipient of a pretty good streaming deal over at Netflix. The Blacklist remains enormously successful all over the world, as well, and that helps at least to a certain extent.
Now that we’ve laid all of this out, there are still some other questions worth pondering for a moment, including precisely if season 6 should be the final one. If we had it our way, we’d personally like to see the series make it to a season 7. Yet, if it does prove to be the end our hope is that this is a message that will be relayed in advance so that the writers can come together with a worthy conclusion that answers many of the questions that are still dangling around out there. For the time being, we know that the upcoming season 5 finale is going to be one of the biggest episodes in the entire history of the show. It could change things in a big way and with that, season 6 could feel in the early going entirely different.
