Why watching Lucifer season 3 finale live is more important than ever

Lucifer

At this point, the news is starting to settle in that Lucifer is canceled … at least for the time being.

Yet, what we’ve seen over the past 24 hours (or technically, less than that) is some of the most passionate fan support that we’ve seen for any show in quite some time. #SaveLucifer trended worldwide on Twitter for the better part of Friday, which probably did admittedly confuse people who had never heard of the show before. This morning, #PickUpLucifer is trending!

The crazy thing to think about here is that there is still one more episode to look forward to in the finale on Monday. We don’t want to lose sight of that — this weird, wonderful, and witty show is coming to a close with an installment that features the aftermath of Charlotte’s brutal death and potentially some hope for Lucifer and Chloe. We’ve set the stage for one of the most epic showdowns we’ve seen in a rather long time.

Now, let’s get into the ratings part of this. It’s easy to be bitter at Fox, and we certainly understand the reasoning for it. Not only did they cancel Lucifer, but in the past few weeks they’ve canceled a number of really great shows. Blame, at least in part, a Thursday Night Football deal for that. The truth here, though, is that for one more week, we really need Fox. To be specific, we need to all watch Fox collectively to see the finale live. If you know someone with a Nielsen box, beg to use it so that you can push some more sampling in the show’s favor.

The incentives to watch the finale are ultimately three-fold. For one, you’re going to get a fantastic episode of entertainment and anyone in their right mind would want that. Beyond that, though, this is a chance to unify the fandom with another hashtag. We’d suggest something like #LuciferFinale, #MoreLucifer, or of course our hashtag of choice in #LuciferCW. We still contend that The CW is the right network to bring the show on board just because so much of the synergy is there. They’ve got Warner Bros. TV as a co-owner already as it makes sense. (Given that Brooklyn Nine-Nine was recently saved by another network in NBC because of synergy, why not try it again?)

Meanwhile, just remember this: If the live ratings for the Lucifer finale tick up, it’s a great showcase to other networks as to precisely what the series’ ultimate value is with a unified audience. If the majority of the audience heads over to The CW and watches it live, it’d be an enormous hit there.

Of course, we’re going to be there every step of the way in hopes of helping to get the series back on the air. We’ll have more updates on all things Lucifer as we know them. If you missed it, check out the video below from yesterday and subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more.
