Gotham season 4 episode 21 review: Did Jeremiah destroy the city?
For starters, let’s turn things over to where they are right now with Jeremiah. Jerome’s brother managed to secure his army in this episode, and from there progressed onward with what was his final plan to figure out, by any means necessary, how to ruin Gotham once and for all. He dropped a number of different bombs throughout the city, made unknowingly by Wayne Enterprises, and then from there give a threat to blow up the city in a matter of hours.
This episode was largely about him trying to execute him plan and establish a new world order; meanwhile, at the same time the likes of Gordon, Bullock, and Bruce worked to stop him. Jeremiah may have thought he killed Gordon but that turned out to not be the case. To make matters worse for him, some of Jeremiah’s other plans started to fall through. He used Scarecrow’s fear gas to make Bruce think that a psychotic Alfred was attacking him but in the end, the real Alfred and also Selina managed to save him.
Beyond just this, Harvey managed to come through on disabling the connections between many of the bombs — Jeremiah couldn’t execute his plan and with that in mind, we saw many of his cohorts actually start to turn against him. They started to think that they were following a false idol and as a result of that, he burned most of them alive. (In other words, Jeremiah doesn’t exactly play things calm.)
The other side of the plan
Jeremiah realized that he had failed and he needed to start from square one. Following that, though, it turned out that there was a surprising ally who could be able to help him: Ra’s al Ghul. At the end of the episode the Demon’s Head turned up with an offer to help him remake Gotham into virtually anything and everything that he wanted. For Ra’s, though, this was just as much about Bruce Wayne as it was anything else.
Meanwhile, Gordon approached Lee with an offer of his own: Leave Gotham rather than continue to find herself in legal trouble here. He didn’t want to see something happen to her — he cared about her. There’s no indication as to whether or not she’ll leave, but it certainly is something that she can think about.
For everyone out there who loves Bruce and Selina, the two kissed near the end of the episode! Of course, soon after that Selina was shot by Jeremiah and her life is now in jeopardy.
CarterMatt Verdict
Gotham season 4 episode 21 was very good. Yet, at the same time it didn’t really resolve all that much when it comes to the story. There are still a multitude of different questions worth asking right now, including whether or not we are going to see Jeremiah strike in an even worse way from here.
