Outlander notes: Sam Heughan headlines and a fantastic Vida story

Outlander

Who’s ready for an afternoon edition of Outlander notes? We’ve got a number of fun things to discuss here today, starting with a couple more headlines when it comes to Sam Heughan.

There is a new interview that is online today via the Scotsman talking about his new clothing line over Barbour, and in that he talks quite a bit about the inspiration for the line and how he finds a way to manage it, his show commitments, and of course also his work on the show. He also discussed how the show’s costumes are useful for the sake of telling the show’s story:

They’re an important and useful tool to tell the story of the character and period, it can really change how one walks, stands etc and give clues to the character’s past and status. It’s fun to build the story in our fittings.

All of this is certainly true — you can learn a lot about someone based solely on the clothes that they wear, and we imagine that there are some rather spectacular ones that have been created for season 4. With the show’s setting now shifted over to America, that calls of course for a very different style and aesthetic than what we’ve had a chance to see in the past. Terry Dresbach has never let us down to date!

On a more comedic note… – You can see at the bottom of this article a video of Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis talking about their experiences with Sam and his running habits while filming The Spy Who Dumped Me in Budapest last year. This movie is coming out a little bit later this year and we imagine that leading up to it, we’re going to have many more stories to share!

Finally, a fun read – While not directly related to Outlander itself, there’s a really wonderful story over in Glamour about how Vida creator Tanya Saracho was inspired to go to Scotland because of her love of the show, and also how being there effectively changed much of her entire life because of someone she met. It’s a really heartwarming story that shows how a love of Outlander can lead to great things, and how the series is appreciated both by fans of TV as well as those working directly in the industry.

Vida actually premieres on Starz tonight, so be sure to check that out!
