Call the Midwife season 7 finale preview (PBS): A story of grief
Last week on the show, the series chose to kill off one of the most-prominent characters on the entire series in Barbara. That wasn’t an easy decision, but the reality here was that with Charlotte Ritchie departing the show, the writers had to figure out something to do. Barbara loved this job far too much to be willing to depart from it willingly.
Unfortunately, with her death does come a funeral, and that is one of the many things of note that you are going to see over the course of this coming episode. She will be formally laid to rest, and with that, Tom will have to devise the proper way for him to move forward. He was a man with dreams and it seemed as though he had a very particular vision for how the remainder of his life was going to be moving forward. Now, he is in a position where he has to go back to the drawing board and figure a whole lot of that out for himself again. It’s not going to be easy. As a matter of fact, we would say that this is going to be a difficult, delicate process for him to be able to figure this out.
There will be some happiness in the finale (it is Sister Monica Joan’s birthday, after all!), but will there really be a way in which to celebrate this in the midst of pain? The Sister herself seems to be very well aware of the fact that it’s hard to throw too celebratory event when there is so much sadness overall.
