Call the Midwife season 7 episode 8 (PBS) preview: A birthday, a funeral

If you do want to see what is coming on Call the Midwife season 7 episode 8, let’s make one thing clear from the get-go: This episode (the final one for this season) is going to be bittersweet at best. (Note: There are some big spoilers ahead from tonight’s episode. Read on with that in mind.)

Over the course of Sunday night’s new episode, one of the big things that you can expect to see is the funeral of Barbara. The character died at the end of tonight’s episode and with that, all of Poplar is going to be in mourning — especially Tom. Barbara was a character who delivered her heart and soul into her career and was a valuable, loyal friend to just about everyone around her. It’s going to be really hard to imagine what the show looks like without her there, but we have to start getting used to the possibility. There is, after all, still going to be another season of the show coming up after this one — production is even underway on it already!

While Barbara’s funeral is going to be a key part of the storyline ahead, rest assured that there are a few happier moments within this episode as well. Call the Midwife is a show that doesn’t like to give you just one set of emotions to tackle. They bring you a wide array of different things and then take you on a bit of a roller-coaster ride from start to finish.

The team rallies to prepare for Sister Monica Joan’s birthday. Meanwhile, the closing of a nearby maternity home brings an influx of expectant mothers to the Nonnatus midwives. Lucille meets Olive, whose father has a secret he can no longer keep.

We don’t want to give away too much in this article, but there will be times in this upcoming episode that you will feel both nostalgic and reflect — after all, this episode is going to reflect in part on everything that we’ve seen so far this season.
