Why an Elementary season 7 renewal could prove challenging for CBS
Why is that? As we’re learning, there are a couple of different reasons for it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the biggest issues is simply that the CBS series is somewhat pricey — which really shouldn’t be a shock since it’s fairly expensive to film in New York, let alone with a cast led by a couple of well-known actors.
Beyond just that, there are also complications when it comes to getting the cast on board. Apparently deals are expiring, which means that there would have to be a renegotiation process to ensure that everyone is back on board.
If we were to chime in with our own two cents on this subject, we would say that it’s absolutely worth the effort to bring Elementary back for another season. Yet, it’s not up to us since CBS is making the decisions and after six years, they may decide that it’s time to move on. It’s a difficult show to gauge just because of how some of the biggest things it brings to the table are things that we cannot necessarily quantify. We’re talking here about international deals (Sherlock Holmes obviously has a big international audience) coupled with the show’s DVR/streaming performance. Airing late in the season, on paper, seems like it will serve as a challenge for the series. However, that may not prove to be the case as time goes on and there is less and less competition out there.
Suffice it to say, the performance of Elementary in the months to come is one of the things that we are the most intrigued about moving into the summer and decision time for CBS.
