Gotham season 4 ratings fall further, increasing nervousness on renewal

Gotham

The latest Gotham season 4 ratings are in, and unfortunately, they do continue to spell concern regarding the future of the series on Fox.

Overall, Thursday night’s new episode posted a new series-low rating in a 0.5 in the 18-49 demographic and ultimately, it’s really hard to figure out why. There was no unusual competition on the air and given the birth of the Joker, or at least the show’s version of it, you would have thought that the numbers would turn out a little bit differently — or at least stay steady. The show’s biggest enemy right now is merely that we’re in the month of May, which is a time in which we tend to see a lot of competition come in just from the weather. For some people (especially in the northeast) they’ve dealt with a long, cold, and snow-filled winter. There are likely more viewers setting their DVR machines than ever before.

The good news for Gotham is that Fox is probably going to look at a number of different factors when it comes to saving the show, including the DVR performance plus how to fares in both streaming and On-Demand; unfortunately, we do have a feeling that there is a crowd of people out there who is taking Gotham for granted one way or another. It would certainly behoove them to start watching live or kicking off campaigns now, if they haven’t already. After all, you don’t want to be in a position where you start promoting the show a little too late and you’re not going to be able to prove anything to Fox in terms of people actually watching the show.

There are two episodes of Gotham left this season — the time is now to either turn the tide or let the show sink into distant memory.
