Unsung Hero Showdown 2018: Alicia Clark of Fear the Walking Dead wins!

The first-ever Unsung Hero Showdown on CarterMatt has officially come to a close, and with that in mind, today we’re more than happy to declare the official winner.

Who is it? With a commanding 65% of the total vote, Alicia Clark of Fear the Walking Dead is officially your favorite Unsung Hero on all of television. She dominated most of the polls that we had throughout the month of April and proved herself worthy of the title. This is the second major title associated with this character on CarterMatt in the past five months, as Alycia Debnam-Carey also was the winner of Underrated Actress at the CarterMatt Awards this past December.

What this win shows is the strength of Debnam-Carey’s fan following, but also the appeal of a character like Alicia to a large audience. Perhaps more so than any other singular person within the Fear the Walking Dead universe we really saw the extent of Alicia’s journey from where things were at the start of the series to where things are today. She started things off as an underdog, someone who was really trying to still find herself at a young age. Throwing the challenge of the zombie apocalypse on top of that felt like it was going to be too much for her to really bear.

Then, remarkable things happened — Alicia got stronger, wiser, and more capable of taking on her environment. We saw this character blossom into a capable, resourceful leader and someone who could take on anything. Her story was that of a badass in the making and it was thoroughly entertaining to watch. Debnam-Carey has played this story with the right amount of power and pain — you see Alicia’s heartbreak at times but also her perseverance. She’s done amazing things through four seasons and yet, both the actress and the character have yet to receive proper credit. This is what the Unsung Hero Showdown was all about, and we hope that moving forward more Fear the Walking Dead viewers and journalists at large give the Alicia Clark character her due. We know that we’re going to be watching her story closely as season 4 gets deeper into its run.
