It’s already very well-documented and reported that Pauley Perrette is going to be leaving NCIS at the conclusion of the upcoming May 1 episode of the series — what’s not as discussed is if she is the only person for sure leaving this season.
One fact remains in that, as of this writing, there is no other performer confirmed to be departing. We want to know that this means the entire cast from the fifteenth season is going to be coming back for more.
Unfortunately, at the moment we know that this is not necessarily guaranteed. Even some of the cast members with contracts beyond this season are not necessarily returning, largely because creative decisions can push the show in other directions. Meanwhile, we have seen times in the past in which performers like to say their goodbyes early.
When it comes to NCIS, the people we absolutely want to see back are more of the established regulars, especially since there are not too many back. David McCallum, Brian Dietzen, and Sean Murray join Mark Harmon (for sure returning) as some of the few remaining people on the show who have been around since season 1. Meanwhile, we do like the role that Vance plays on the team in terms of being a nice bridge between NCIS and some other arms of the government.
As for some of the agents, could we see some turnover there? Sure, but we’re not sure we need it. Torres and Bishop have figured out a great partnership with each other and we love Duane Henry as Clayton Reeves and wish he would be used a little bit more than he is. Jack Sloane seems like she will be coming back since signs point to her story having a very huge role in the finale. This is a long-winded way of saying that we’d like to see everyone back, but more than that we just think that too much change is bad for a show and having more than one departure this season will be too much turnover. If there is another change coming, it’s better to do that in season 16 when the new team dynamic with Abby’s replacement is a little bit more stable.
