Supergirl season 3 spoilers: Is there still hope for Sam?

Supergirl season 3 episode 15

One of the things that is so interesting about the main narrative at the heart of Supergirl season 3 is that it’s not just entirely about trying to save Reign. Instead, it’s also about doing whatever needs to be done in order to help Samantha Arias. She is the woman unfortunately trapped unwittingly in the midst of this battle. Her body is a host and she’s only starting to figure this out. The rest of the cast doesn’t even know the truth as of yet but we have a feeling that they will before it’s too much later in the game.

When they do figure it out, there is still going to be an emphasis put on trying to extract the villain from their friend and all signs point towards this being an epic conclusion to this season. There may be a hesitation to killing Reign, even more so than the other Worldkillers, for this very reason. It’s going to lead to some very interesting debates both within the DEO and also beyond.

In speaking on the subject of these upcoming showdowns more per Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Robert Rovner had the following to say:

“It’s going to be epic. What’s great about this season is that what makes it powerful and exciting is that it’s really emotionally charged. Because the final solution is about saving your friend, it focuses on how they’ll accomplish that.”

This is certainly an exciting proposition mostly because it is different than what you tend to see from other superhero shows where the stakes are on different levels. With The Flash, for example, there are moral reasons behind why Team Flash is not necessarily interested in killing DeVoe. Yet, at the same exact time they don’t have a personal investment in that character. Kara and her friends have an investment in Samantha Arias the person and they want to keep her alive. There’s a difference between wanting someone to live explicitly and not wanting to kill someone for moral reasons.
