Outlander season 4 spoilers: Joseph Wemyss casting news
Per his IMDb page, actor Alec Newman (Fearless, The Bastard Executioner) will play the role of Joseph Wemyss on the upcoming eighth episode of the season. In the books, this character is the father of Lizzie Wemyss and ends up selling her as an indentured servant to Brianna in order to save her from a terrible life elsewhere. As to much of his role appears on the show, that remains to be seen; yet, we do know that eventually within the source material he settles in at Fraser’s Ridge with his daughter.
For the most part, Starz has been fairly quiet when it comes to announcing Outlander casting news — to date, the biggest ones that have been confirmed are Colin McFarlane (Ulysses), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Jocasta), and Ed Speleers (Stephen Bonnet). There have been some other minor roles here and there, but understandably the series likes to keep things fairly on the down-low with this. They always tend to do a good job casting parts and we have the utmost confidence that this will continue moving into the future.
Filming at the moment is taking place throughout Scotland — we recently reported on some shooting at Pollok Park and it appears as though production will be shifting over to interior sets early next week after Caitriona Balfe returns from taking part in the London Marathon. Filming is set to continue until June, and following that, the cast and crew will have their own Droughtlander for at least a few months. As for how long that lasts, much of that depends on the season 5 renewal timing and the schedule that is laid out. If the series continues at the pace in which it is on now, the start of season 5 filming is likely going to begin around October. If there is a longer break between seasons 4 and 5, it could begin a little bit later. For now, it’s a little bit too early to say one way or another.
