MacGyver season 2 finale spoilers: ‘MacGyver + MacGyver’

The MacGyver season 2 finale is going to be airing on CBS on Friday, May 4, and based on some preliminary details you better get ready for a showdown like no other. The title for this episode is “MacGyver + MacGyver” and that certainly seems to be a possible sign of what could be coming. For most of the season, there has been talk about potentially getting a chance to see Mac’s dad in the final episode. Could this be the opportunity that we’ve been long hoping to have? Of course, as of right now the network isn’t saying, but they did recently hand down the attached synopsis with some more insight as to what’s coming:

“MacGyver + MacGyver” – MacGyver gets a shocking surprise when he tries to tell Matty that he’s quitting the Phoenix Foundation, on the second season finale of MACGYVER, Friday, May 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Tate Donovan guest stars as Oversight, a man with a history with Matty.

The obvious assumption would be that Donovan’s Oversight could be Mac’s dad in secret, given that he is the right age for the part and we know there is a history between this man and Matty from earlier this season. Yet, is that almost too obvious a reveal? You do have to wonder that. Also, we wonder this: Why would Mac ever want to leave the Phoenix Foundation? One of the primary things that we have learned about this character through watching the past two seasons is that he loves what he does helping people. With that in mind, it makes absolute sense that he would want to keep doing it.

If there was a reason for him to depart this role, it could be one of many things. For starters, you could argue that maybe something happened that caused Mac to lose his trust in Matty beyond just the connection to his father. Or, maybe he’s just tired of having his life in constant danger. Regardless of the reason, it has to be sever given that this is a guy who has given, almost constantly, his heart and soul to being a part of the Phoenix Foundation. This is not something we imagine him walking away from altogether easily.
