Supergirl season 3 spoilers: Lena Luthor – Supergirl conflict ahead
One of the most intriguing things about the Lena character at the moment is that she is one of the few characters who can have different relationships, one with Kara and then one with Supergirl. It’s a unique dynamic and that’s probably one of the reasons why the writers haven’t been altogether eager to have her learn that the two are the same person. It allows Kara Danvers to have a close friend separate from her alter ego … but the unfortunate news here is that at some point this season, the relationship between Lena and Supergirl may start to crumble a little bit.
For a little bit more insight into what we’re talking about here, just check out what co-showrunner Jessica Queller had to say on the subject via TVLine:
In an upcoming episode, there’s a big reveal that Lena has something in her lab that will enrage Supergirl and the DEO, and it turns into an epic battle of wills between the two women, Lena and Supergirl. I wouldn’t want to miss it.
What we’ve come to know, at least so far, about Lena is that she is the sort of person who does what she feels to be right — some of her moves may not necessarily be moral in the purest sense, but she’s not evil or twisted like most of the rest of her family. Sometimes, her dangerous edges are strictly for her own survival. Unfortunately, what Lena may be doing here could be drawing the ire of Supergirl and the end results could be pretty shocking. Would Kara have to do something that could actually hurt her own close friend? It’s such an unusual situation and what is what makes it interesting — it’s not the sort of dynamic that you get a real opportunity to see on TV all of the time.
