Chicago PD season 5 episode 19 review: Outrunning demons
The more that Intelligence started to dig into the case, the more that it started to become a little bit clear that something was amiss. Yet, it may not have been so simple as this cop being dirty. She may have just been naïve to some of the people who were around her. The target at the end of the episode was another dirty cop in Ray, who did his best in order to fight the cops. He didn’t actually have a gun and with that in mind, he wanted nothing more than to be shot and killed when he was caught. The last thing he wanted was to go to prison with his reputation as a cop out there.
Ultimately, this was a pretty devastating case that reminded you that not every cop is by the book … though you probably knew that already based on everything else we are dealing with this season.
How much trouble was Olinsky in?
To put it mildly, he was in pretty deep. The investigation into Bingham’s murder continued and Olinsky tried to make a few big plays, including putting in his pension papers to try and test the waters a little bit. Basically, he thought he had to make a move in the case and figure out a little bit more of the truth.
The trouble for Olinsky escalated at the end of the episode when it was revealed that his pension was flagged. To make matters all the more complicated, Olinsky did what he could to wash his hands of wrongdoing in an effort to pin some drugs on Ruben — specifically someone who could damage their case. These two guys (Olinsky and Voight) may be the main characters of the show, but is the work they’ve done to catch bad guys really enough to ignore what we’re doing now? Hardly.
That quote about outrunning demons at the end of the episode? We have a feeling that some of these demons could catch up with these characters soon.
CarterMatt Verdict
As a whole, we would consider Chicago PD season 5 episode 19 to be one of the better installments of the series this season, at least in terms of what it was building to. We weren’t fully on board the robbery case until the very end.
