The Originals season 5 poster all about family, always and forever

The CW has just unveiled its first poster for The Originals season 5 and based on what we’re seeing, it looks as though this final season could be one of the most emotional ones yet.

If nothing else, it is going to touch back on some of the very themes that defined the series in the first place: Family, perseverance, and working at whatever cost to get through tough times … always and forever. This is the theme that is present within the simplified final-season poster, which filters out some of the noise and puts both Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) within the spotlight.

Of course, the irony that comes within the final season is that when it first begins, Klaus and Elijah are not going to be anywhere near each other. As a matter of fact, that may be the way in which this works for a long time. These characters are going to be off in separate corners of the world due to what happened with the Hollow at the end of season 4 — they were able to both preserve the world and save Hope but there were consequences to go along with that. Expect to see Hope (now a teenager) at the center of the story in season 5, struggling to do whatever she can in order to make things right for them. Along the way, you will learn more about who Hope is, how she factors into the story, and also what the world could look like in the event that the previously-planned spin-off on her life ends up coming to fruition.

The Originals season 5 premieres formally in just one week on April 18. Rest assured, CarterMatt will have a lot more coverage throughout the season as we see how the first family of vampires’ story officially comes to a close. Expect carnage, violence, and hopefully homages to where everything first began with The Vampire Diaries many years ago. If the spin-off does not get picked up, it will be strange to picture the TV landscape without a Julie Plec-produced vampire show.
